DURIAN KING TTDI | Feasting Musang King, Durian Cendol at Durian King TTDI

DURIAN KING TTDI - Malaysian are a crazy lot when it comes to their durians especially Musang King Durian. They want to source for the best quality at the lowest durian prices to satisfy their cravings.

For me, the best time to eat Durian is when it is at the peak season. The reason being is, it will be the best quality as the fruits are at their best and secondly it will be at the best price.

For me, I will usually go to the Durian King TTDI for my durian feasting due to the above 2 reason.

Also at Durian King TTDI, you will also be able to feast on the prized Black Thorn durian (probably the only Durian stall in Kuala Lumpur (KL) and Petaling Jaya (PJ) that sells this variety but too bad, I did not get to taste this Durian this time around.

Durian King TTDI also sells a variety of other Durian Species namely the XO, D101, Udang Merah and so forth.

You can check out their Durian King TTDI facebook page for the latest prices of their Musang King and other varieties.

Also not to be missed is the Durian Cendol from Durian King TTDI.

Durian King TTDI 榴莲王 - Durian Season 2017 Is Here

Durian is one of the most prized fruits in Malaysia. This year 2017 has been a year where Durian prices have skyrocketed to more than RM100.00 per kg for Musang King during the pre-season.

The other reason for the price increase was due to the China factor; we last heard that Musang King was selling as high as RM500.00 per kg in China.

Now as the season progress, you can now enjoy the King of Fruits that have come down to reasonably priced. We got to taste the Musang King at Durian King TTDI recently which they are retailing at RM53.00 per kg.

Hopefully, as the season progress, we can get to enjoy a more sumptuous feast of the Malaysian treats. Do check out the prices from Durian TTDI facebook page for the latest prices.

One of the other treats at Durian King TTDI is the availability of the Black Thorn species with its pungent flavour, thick and meaty texture is a must for me.

At Durian King TTDI, you can request to be served the Chilled Whole Durian; it gives you that extra kick especially for those that love to eat Durian that is kept in the fridge. The difference is that this whole Durian which is kept chilled has a firmer texture compared to those that are kept in the fridge (which tends to be a little mushy).

Another specialty at Durian King TTDI is the the Durian Cendol which for me is a must taste. From RM15.00 per bowl with a scoop of Durian.

For those that like to know how to spot a Musang King and Black Thorn can refer to our previous link.

Durian - King Of Fruit Season Is Here in Malaysia - Musang King and Black Thorn Durian Feast at Durian King TTDI Bukit Bintang

Durian - The King Of Fruit Season has finally arrived. For fans and diehard of Durian, you can start to indulge in Durians for the next 2 -3 months.

At Durian King Bukit Bintang and Durian King TTDI, the season starts off with the arrival of 2 of the most sought after Durian species which is the Musang King (from Raub) and also the Black Thorn (from Penang).

We had the first-hand opportunity to taste these 2 species of Durian; For the Black Thorn, this is the first time that I have tasted it. For fans of Musang King, the Black Thorn is one level up in terms of taste and texture; it has that is creamier texture and taste compares with Musang King.

Photo Courtesy of Durian King Facebook page
One of the distinctive difference is the colour of the Durian flesh, while the Musang King is bright yellow as the earlier photo; the top quality flesh of a Black Thorn is orange in colour. We were told that for Black Thorn; it will taste even better when it is kept one day after picking up the fruit which has just drop from the Durian fruit tree. By doing so; it will turn the Durian flesh to have that bright glowing orange colour as depicted by the above photo.

At Durian King; all the durian are transported fresh from the contracted farm in Penang and Raub on a daily basis. We were told that in Kuala Lumpur and Petaling Jaya, you will not be able to get any Black Thorn Durian from any Durian store as they have contracted all of the farms that supply this Black Thorn.

To spot the difference between Black Thorn and other species is quite easy. You just look at the bottom of the Durian and in the middle, you will see a thorn jutting out and it will turn black when it is ripe; but it does fall off;

the other distinct feature is the shape of the Durian which resembles a Star Fruit like shape as shown in the photo.

For the Musang King, to identify; there is 2 distinct character; the first is the marking around the durian at the stem as shown above.

and at the bottom, there is a star like brown marking there.

Durian Musang King

At Durian King, they are also the first in Malaysia to serve Chill Durian at the shop; We quip; why sell chill Durians; the owner says that in the past he noticed that there are a number of customers that like to bring home the Durian to be consumed after chilling it; so he decided to invest in the chiller and put up the Durian in the chiller for customer to enjoy chilled Durian. You can still opt for the Non-chill version too.

Lastly; one of the most talked about dessert in town now is the Durian Cendol. At Durian King Bukit Bintang and Durian king TTDI, they are also jumping on this bandwagon to serve Durian Cendol too; but in this case, we had the Black Thorn Durian Cendol instead.

We were also given a short lesson on how to choose a nice Durian by the Durian King himself Mr Erik Ong; just for your info

First test: You pick up a Durian; put it near your nose; take a deep sniff (breath) from the nose to smell it; if you can smell the durian aroma you pass the first test.

Second Test: Give it a shake; if you can feel that there is knocking; that means the Durian is good.

There you have it; So for Durian fans; get ready your stomach to feast on the King of Fruits - The Durian season is here.

Izakaya Kushi Raku Japanese Restaurant @TTDI Kuala Lumpur -Japanese Bar and Yakitori Review

I really enjoyed Izakaya style dining especially its skewers (Yakitori ) offering. Recently +BestRestaurant ToEat was invited to Izakaya Kushi Raku Japanese Restaurant located at 28, Jalan Tun Mohd Fuad 2 Taman Tun Dr Ismail TTDI 60000 Kuala Lumpur to taste out these special offering.

Izakaya Kushi Raku Japanese Restaurant has opened for business less than one year ago with a theme of Japanese grilled bar concept.

The interior is a modern and fun setup with a lots of Japanese inspired peripheral. Sake bottles can be seen adorned on top of the rack. Even the furniture which is custom made to foster the ambience of a casual dining.

Izakaya Kushi Raku offers chicken, beef and pork skewers. There are also vegetables and seafood skewers too. Izakaya Kushi Raku now have some very special signature dishes for customer to enjoy it with a cold sake or a cold beer.

Our food review started with 2 appetizers; the first of which is the Skate Fish (Eihire) – RM10. For those that are not familiar with what a skate fish is; it is actually a Stingray fish (Ikan Pari). The fish meat are cut and grilled. It has a sweet salty taste. Nice to eat with the some sake.

Next is the Snail Meat (Chuaka Sazae Niku) – RM9. I love the chewy and bouncy texture of this snail meat. The sauce was just right and was served chilled.

For the skewers (yakitori) we started with the Chicken Wing Salt (Teba Shio) – RM7 per skewer. The chicken wing are slightly seasoned with table salt and put to the griller. During the grilling process the chef, sprinkle some sake to add in the wine flavour to the chicken wings. Loves the crisp, and sake taste in the chicken wing.

Next on is the Chicken Thigh meat with Wasabi Mayo (Momo Wasabi Mayone-zu) – RM5 per skewer. As with the chicken wings this thigh meat is also seasoned with salt and during the grilling process, the special wasabi mayo sauce are applied on the meat. This ensures the flavours are locked into the meat when you bite into it.

After which we had the Beef Ribeye with Miso Sauce (Gyumiso) – RM11 per skewer. This is another sauce enhance grilling. This time, the chef uses the miso sauce. I like it as the miso sauce was not too overwhelming, as if he has applied too much of the miso, it will be salty and would not have tasted the flavour of the beef meat. Love the medium done texture which leave the meat still tender and juicy.

The second last skewers is the Pork Belly Special (Bara Yaku to Age) – RM7 per skewer. For this skewers, the chef uses the teriyaki sauce to apply to the skewers. It has a sweet and salty taste and with the use of pork belly meat (oil mix with the sauce); gives a nice texture and taste to this slight crunch skewers.

The last skewer is the Cherry Tomato (Cheri Tomato) – RM4 per skewer. Lightly seasoned with salt and sent to the griller.

For the main course we had the Squid Stuffed Rice (Ikasaki Raisu Zume) – RM27. Using seaweed, sesame seed, bonito flakes and mix with Japanese Grain rice; it is then stuffed into the squid before being grilled. Using Teriyaki sauce to spread on the squid while grilling; the chewy texture squid gives you a sweet taste.

The final dish is the Grilled Riceball with Salmon (Salmon Yakionigiri) – RM7. The Salmon meat are moulded into the rice and then send to the griller. Before serving, it is topped with seaweed. I am really not a fan of grilled rice as I find the rice to be a little hard and have a slight crunch; but for those that loves this kind of texture, they will probably find it tasty.

Whether to hang out with friends or to have some good food while enjoying a nice beer or just plainly stayed chill for the evening, Izakaya Kushi Raku is definitely a nice pick.
